Work In Parliament

In the current Parliament (44th Parliament), Greg is a member of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, an exceptionally important policy area right now with expanding numbers of government approved immigration levels, but also often unknown numbers of temporary residents, persons whose visitor permits have expired but have not left the country, and those who came to Canada on student visas. This casual approach to managing immigration puts pressure on infrastructure such as housing, health care and education. Slow processing and sometimes impossible requirements (such as accessing biometrics in Gaza) also puts refugees at risk of harm as they wait in countries like Afghanistan for paperwork to be processed while they live in danger. 

Greg previously served on the Environment Committee where he took - and continues to take - a strong interest in policy that balances environmental protection with consumer interests and the prosperity of Canada's diverse energy industry. That focus includes work in advancing Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), hydrogen, nuclear energy, and the Canadian-made technology that achieves emissions reductions in the traditional oil and gas industry and other industries (such as cement). There is also exciting new technology being developed - much of it here in Alberta - that turns waste carbon into useful industrial and consumer products. Greg believes we can find an appropriate balance that meets Canada's goals - and global goals - in emissions control, while still providing reliable, clean energy to power our world.
